Word Type: Verb / Colloquial Slang
Definition: Literally “did not invite”; used to jokingly call someone out for leaving you out of a social gathering, meal, or outing.
Example: “You guys went to the night market without me? Bojio!”
History & Origin: Derived from the Hokkien dialect phrase bô-tsio (无招), where bo means “no/without” and jio means “to invite or call.” It crossed over from Hokkien speakers into mainstream Malaysian and Singaporean Manglish, becoming a universal slang word used across all ethnic groups to tease friends who didn’t invite the group along.
Usage Tip: Use it purely for friendly banter when seeing social media posts or hearing about plans you missed. It never implies that a person is getting bullied. If you are actually called Bojio by your friends, it means you are never left out.
